Theatre People are the Best
The things people do to create theatre are pretty incredible. I looked around the rehearsal space tonight and thought about all the hours that those actors are giving for this show. They are all volunteers. They work full-time jobs or, in the case of the children, attend school all day. Then, they come to the theater to work together to create something special.
It hasn’t been an easy re-entry. As I’ve said before, re-entry is not for the weak! Things that once came automatically to mind take longer since the pandemic kept us away from the process for so long. But, it is coming back. And, I love being in the room when it happens.
A person has to absolutely love doing it in order to do it. When I was in college, my acting professor said, “IF you CAN do ANYTHING else, do.” In other words, it is a calling. And, those who are called can’t be happy doing anything else. These volunteers have found a way to make a living and give themselves to the community.
Being in the room and watching folks work together in this way reminds me how good people really are. It reminds me that God created us to be creative and that our creativity makes room for goodness in the world.
I don’t have much to say about any of this. I’m just feeling extremely grateful.
